THE OPIOID CRISIS

Revitalize Wellness Clinic holds free monthly classes with various guest speakers, to educate the public about the Opioid Awareness Crisis that this country is currently facing. We also offer free monthly classes to educate the public in Narcan Administration.  We strive to empower our clients to take control of their own health and well-being, as well as being prepared to promptly assist in saving the lives of others.

  • In 2022, nearly 108,000 people died from drug overdoses, which equates to about 296 overdoses each day
  •  Among the 2022 overdose deaths, about 76% involved any opioid (prescription or illicit), 68% involved a synthetic opioid other than methadone — such as fentanyl, fentanyl analogs, and tramadol), 26% involved cocaine, and 32% involved a psychostimulant such as methamphetamine.
  • In 2021, 79% of overdose deaths involving cocaine also involved an opioid and 66% of psychostimulant-involved overdose deaths also involved an opioid.
  • Illegally made fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, or methamphetamine (alone or in combination) were involved in nearly 85% of drug overdose deaths in 24 states and the District of Columbia during January–June 2019.
  •  These statistics reflect the importance of action. CDC is addressing this crisis through evidence-based interventions that account for changes in the illegal drug supply that make the crisis deadlier than ever, continued threats from illegally made fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, and a rise in deaths involving stimulants and more than one drug.

Good Samaritan Laws

  • Drug overdose involving opioids is one of the leading causes of injury-related death in the United States. As a result of the opioid crisis, many states and the District of Columbia have enacted Good Samaritan Laws specific to this issue in the event of an overdose. These types of policies may protect the person experiencing the overdose and the person seeking medical help for the person experiencing the overdose from drug possession charges. These laws also intend to reduce the number of overdoses by encouraging both those experiencing overdoses and witnesses to call 911 by granting a certain degree of immunity. This immunity may come in the form of not being charged with a drug-related offense or receiving a reduced sentence.

Reverse Opioid Overdose to Prevent Death

  •  Opioid use disorder and overdose deaths continue to be a major public health concern in the United States, but they are preventable. Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids like fentanyl and heroin.
